Background and Statistics
It is estimated that in the UK 1 adult in 6 has a common mental health problem. Anxiety and depression are the most common mental health difficulties and account for roughly one-fifth of the days lost from work in Britain. In 2018 there were 6,507 deaths by suicide in UK and it’s estimated that 75% of people struggling with their mental health do not have access to the support they need. These alarming figures indicate just how many people struggle with their mental health and how debilitating and devasting the consequences of not receiving the right support can be.
